About Slater's Apiaries
We've been farming in the Cedar/East Bethel, Minnesota area since 1989. Our honey is locally produced and minimally processed to ensure the freshest, most vitamin rich honey available.
We produce a large selection of pre-packaged raw honey from 2 oz to 3 lb containers, as well as creamed honey, beeswax, and beeswax candles (available upon request).
We also offer a wide selection of specialty containers from 8 oz jars to 5 gallon buckets. Need a custom collectible container? We've got you covered! Have a container of your own? Stop by and we'll fill it with our all-natural raw honey.
Why buy local, raw honey?
Slater's Apiaries produces pure, raw honey. All honey with our label on it is 100% pure raw honey with minimal processing. Raw honey is more sought after because of it's nutritional value and amylase, an enzyme concentrated in flower pollen that helps predigest starchy foods like bread.
What Raw Honey Does for Your Body
Our raw honey is the original sweet, liquid that honeybees produce from the concentrated nectar of flowers. Collected straight from the hives, it is unheated, unpasteurized, and the process from collection to bottling is done with the least amount of processing possible.
This type of honey contains ingredients similar to those found in fruits, which become alkaline in the digestive system. It doesn't ferment in the stomach, and it can be used to counteract acid indigestion. When mixed with ginger and lemon juice, it effectively relieves nausea and supplies energy.
Raw foodists love honey for its exceptional nutritional value and its amylase, an enzyme concentrated in flower pollen, which helps predigest starchy foods like breads. Raw honey is also known for its antibiotic properties, and it can be used on cuts and wounds to aid with healing.
Much of the honey found in supermarkets is not true raw honey, but "commercial" regular honey, some of which has been pasteurized (heated at 70 degrees Celsius or more, followed by rapid cooling). This process allows for easy filtering and bottling so that it looks cleaner, smoother, and more appealing on the shelf.
Heating also slows down the speed of crystallization in liquid honey. On the downside, when honey is heated, its delicate aromas, yeast and enzymes, which are responsible for activating vitamins and minerals in the body system, are partially destroyed.
All honey with our label on it is 100% Pure Raw Honey, with minimal processing.
